I've always liked cars but my actual, actual love of cars was in my first ever car. An R34 Skyline. I…obviously everyone's watched Fast and Furious. I would drive it to school every single day.
Go to the street, walk down the road, start it, wait ten minutes and go to school. And it was an automatic as well, so it was very easy to drive. And then over time, I kind of got used to it.
I love that car, that car was like my baby. I'll think I'm like a tough c*** in the air, fastest car on the road, smoking grandmas in minivans.
You know I was like, f*** yeah, that’s it. It was the best model BMW. Well, I was 18. And then, so after that, that car got crashed. Not my fault. The lady came out of a giveaway zone without giving way and hit me. I didn't care; got written off. I was a bit upset and then after that car I bought a 4 series.
That's the one with the red interior. That's my one of my favorite cars ever, not because it was like fast or anything. Like yeah, it was fast but it wasn’t that fast. It was just a, like, I've put so much effort into that car I've changed the whole entire color. Rims, steering wheel, tuned the downpipe, intake, charge pipe.
I sold it. It was a funny story when I sold it. Some guy rocked up with his dad and negotiated. Keep in mind, on the phone he negotiated 2k down. But the day before I was willing to sell the car for 20k, because the car only cost me 15. I was still making 5k. I was willing to sell the car for 20k. The guy calls me up, goes, hey mate, I'm interested, I'm want it for my son, would you do 26 and a half with roadworthy? I'm like, yeah, done. Came there, looked at it, the guy's some old guy that pulled up in a $200,000 car. So I'm like, and he drove three hours to get here. I'm like, oh, he's buying. A million percent, he's buying it.
He comes up and goes, ‘All right mate, I'm not driving back up here three hours and going back three hours, just give me a price without roadworthy and we'll call it even’. I'm like, ‘Look, bro, honestly, it wouldn't cost you more than a thousand dollars for roadworthy.’
‘But for your hassle and all that, I'll take $1,500 off because you still got to take a day off work and do all that.’ Making him think that he's getting a good deal out of it. And then he was like, so basically I was like ‘25k, it's yours’. And then this guy gives me the biggest smirk ever, goes, ‘Would you do $24750?’
And I'm like, in my head, I'm like, ‘F*** yeah!’ But I was like, I'm gonna act like, I'm like ‘Ah, man. I'll tell you what, we'll flip a coin. $24750 or $25200.’ And this guy, he liked it. The fact that there's a game and he's rich, he doesn't give a f***. Goes ‘You know what? Yeah, we'll do it!’ He flips the coin, lands on $24750. I’m like to him: “Alright, all yours”. I'm a man of my word, this, this and that, but I was going to let me go for 20, I didn't give a f***!
So for six months straight, I was looking for this exact same car [BMW e36]. Could not find anything.
First 5 minutes of me driving this car: overheating, coolant everywhere, just the car's just going crazy. It wasn't the car's fault. The battery was dead cause it was transported. And the thermostat and the water pump wasn't working properly and it just burnt. And then with this car I've looked up heaps of videos. This exact same engine, if you just put in a turbo kit, it can push 350 horsepower per wheel.
And that's why I was like, you know what, this will be a fun car. This car, like, I would never ever be like, ‘Alright it's fully built.’ Because I can always make a bigger turbo. I can always build the engine, take the engine out. There’s heaps, there's like thousands of things you can do to these guys.
When you were learning how to play around with cars, like mod it, put things in and out, did you learn like by yourself or was it because you were in the garage and people were helping you out?
No, it's always, like, you always see people do it first and you go ‘Oh, but what if I do this instead?’ And then you do more research and there's that one guy out there that done that and it's like: that's better than this. Like if I had, for example, if I had all the parts and all the money right now, you wouldn't even see me out. I'll be just in the garage finishing this this and that, and once I'm done I'll be test driving it. And once I'm done test driving, I'll see a video of a guy who's done something different and I'll be like ‘Wait hold on I want this instead’ and I'll change it all over.
Have you built a real, like, car community, if you know what I mean?
I haven't built a car community, but I've built friendship over cars. For example, if this engine blows and I have another engine and I need help putting it in, I know a friend that if I'll call right now, he'll come and change it for a ciggie and a pack of smokes. Like a pack of smokes and a pizza or whatever.
And same with them. If they need help with anything, they call me, I'll be there in a heartbeat. For example, doesn't matter if I've got something personal going on where, like, I need to go do this, for myself. And a friend calls me saying, ‘Hey man, like I need to do this.’ And I'll be like, ‘Can I do it after?’ And if they say ‘No, like it's really important’, I'll go right away.
Because I don't know why, but I just prefer, like personally, would want to help others first, before helping yourself. Because I believe everything you do comes around. And if I'm helping someone right now and, you know, like I take time out of my day to help them. In the future, I'm going to need help. And there'll be someone for me. You know, I mean, there'll be someone that's like, without me asking for help, they'll be like, ‘Hey bro, like, do you need help with this?’ And I'm like, ‘Yeah, man, like, I really appreciate it.’ And then, like, what goes around comes around.
Do you think most people are like that, who will help others before themselves? Do you reckon most people help themselves first?
There's heaps of people out there that do, but at the same time, there's heaps of people that don't.
Look, everyone is going through different things. If a person, you know, and everyone is raised differently as well. You know, people aren't, not everyone's used to being nice, not everyone's like, in his mind, he probably thinks saying thank you is not a big deal. You know what I mean? So like, I can't just go around expecting everyone to do things when everyone is raised differently. I was raised to be respectful, help others.
You know, if, for example, if I see a random person struggling to do something, a person I don't know, it doesn't matter if he's my religion or not. Whether he's, it doesn't matter who he is, a random person. No matter what he's done or what he looks like, that needs help and I can help him, I'm raised to help him.
There's a story of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, where his neighbor used to always chuck rubbish in front of his house. And Prophet Muhammad never ever said anything to him. Alright, he thought the best of him. He was like, ‘Oh maybe his legs hurt, he can't walk all the way to the area to put the rubbish in so he’s putting it in front of my house, it's not a big deal’. So he would pick up the rubbish, put it away. And then one day it stopped. And instead of him being like, ‘Oh, thank God’, you know, ‘he stopped’. He was like, ‘Wait, did something happen to him? Like, is he ill? Like, is there someone looking after him?’ And he knocked on the door and he was like, you know, someone answered him. ‘He was like, is your husband all right? He hasn't chucked rubbish in front of my house. I'm just wondering if he's all right?’. And he turned out to be ill. And then even though he was ill, he still took care of him.
So the idea is, no matter what someone does, never ever think the worst of them. Always think the best. Always think that they've done it for a reason, because they thought it was the right thing to do.
Where like someone picked up a wallet from your car, like a mate of yours or you give a ride to a random and you left your wallet in the car and they picked it up, and you realize after. Don’t say this guy stole my wallet, say this person picked up my wallet by accident thinking it was his. Because bro, if you accuse that person of stealing the wallet and you walked up to him and be like, ‘Hey bro, you stole my wallet!’ and he’s like, ‘What do you mean?’ and he checks his pocket like, ‘No, sorry man, I picked it up by accident.’
You're gonna feel like shit. You're gonna feel like shit whether you stopped him or whether he called you the next day like ‘Hey man, I think I picked up your wallet by accident’ or ‘I think I picked up your $50 note that was right next to my wallet thinking it was mine by accident. I'll transfer it to you or I’ll come drop it off right now’. You’re gonna feel like shit. In your head, even if you didn't say it, in your head, blaming that person, you will feel like shit. So it's always, like, think of the best until you're 100% sure.
They might be having a bad day. Maybe their father's ill, maybe they're just not feeling well Like we've all we've all had something bad in our lives that affected our moods.
Look. The way I see it is, that person, for example, if a person turns bad, whether it was you know a close friend of mine or someone who's far away, something caused it. I'll give you an example. If, if you beat your child, your child will beat his brother, thinking it's the right thing to do.
If you yell at your child, your child would yell at his brother. And who will go to school, and if his friends do something wrong, he would beat them or yell at them. In his mind, he's not like, ‘Oh, I shouldn't be doing that, but I'm still going to do it’. In his mind, it's like, ‘Oh, he's done the wrong thing, I need to yell at him’. Because that's how he's been brought up.
Some people have very bad mental issues and you just gotta, like, sometimes gotta understand it. And, whether you understand it or not, it can affect them in a really bad way.
You know, like, I used to work with NDIS. You know what I mean? My clients used to lie so they don't do what they don’t want to do, like what they have to do. They do what they want to do. And my client and the mum had mental issues. And you just kind of got to understand your surroundings before you speak up. You also, gotta, like, know what to do as well. When someone does a bad thing, it's not always they wanted to do it. It's always they had a reason to do it. whether they you know, done something and didn't say sorry in their mind it's like, ‘Ah it’s not a big deal’. Just because they're not used to it. I don't know, that's how I believe in it. Obviously everyone believes in something differently but that's how I view things in life and so far I have not been one.
Do you ever give someone too much of the benefit of the doubt that you're worried that they'll just kind of use you for your kindness?
No, because I can always just turn around and say no. Whenever they need something, I can always turn around and say no. As I said again, I'm not doing it for them, I'm doing it for me. Because whatever I do, I'm putting it out there in the universe and good will come back to you.
So if I spring kindness, kindness will come back to me. And I'm not gonna say in my life, no one has ever been kind to me. No heaps of people have. Heaps of people have done different, like random, random things where like, you know, I went to buy car parts and the guy saw me and I was speaking to him, you just give it to me for free. He was like, nah man, just take it. I'm like, nah, I need to pay you for it. He goes, no, no, it's all right. Take it, you're a good person.
So there's no reason for me to just, if one bad apple on the tree is bad, doesn't mean you can't eat the rest of the tree. It doesn't mean you can't eat the rest of the apples. You know, just because one person is bad, don't let it ruin your mood. Just have a smile, don't let him affect you because he will basically win if he does. You know. At least that's how I think about it I don't know how other people think about I've never actually spoken to other people about it. Yeah it's just something that's been I think.
I don't look at it with one bad black person, every black person is bad It's one bad black person, sweet, so that person is bad.
It's one bad person, sweet, that person is bad. Stay away from him. One bad Indian, yes, sweet, that Indian is bad, stay away from him. One bad Arabic, sweet, that Arab is bad, stay away from him. That's how I look at it. I don't know how others look at it. I doubt that others look at it in the same way but it's just a personal thing and that's what I believe is going on and that's how I view things in life.
If someone is angry towards you, don't respond. Because once you respond to something, once you respond to him, you're accepting the anger. If you don't respond to it, it will go back towards them. So if someone is being mad, rude towards you, don't be rude back, be nice.
Because at the end of the day, he'll be like, ‘What was wrong with that person?’ I was rude to him. And he still said, You have a good day, brother’ and walked away, do you know what I mean.
In his mind he's gonna be like, you know, maybe I shouldn't have done that you know. I doubt that most of them would do that but, somewhere out there, there's a few bad apples but it doesn't mean that all apples are bad. That's that's that's the only way I think about life. I don't know how others think about it. Don't really care how others think about it. It's more of what I believe and what I want to believe as well.
